Agenda
Our agenda
The VTA brings veterinary technology companies together to address issues that affect the wider profession. Our initial agenda focuses on three areas: the exchange of veterinary data, the responsible use of AI and the evidence supporting technology claims.
These issues cut across individual products, suppliers and national markets. Progress requires input from technology developers, veterinary professionals, researchers and other stakeholders.
These are areas for member discussion and practical work. They should not be mistaken for standards that have already been agreed or formal policy positions adopted by the association.
Data Standards & Interoperability
Veterinary records often need to move between practices, referral centres, laboratories and software systems. When information is difficult to exchange, clinical teams can lose time and important context.
We want to examine how common data definitions, reliable exports and secure interfaces can improve continuity of care while making it easier for practices to choose the tools they need.
Responsible AI
Artificial intelligence is being used in clinical documentation, communication, diagnostic support and veterinary workflows. These applications differ substantially in their risks and the evidence required to support them.
We want to establish practical expectations for transparency, validation, clinical oversight and accountability without treating every AI application as if it carries the same risk.
Evidence & Outcomes
Veterinary technology suppliers make claims about time savings, efficiency, diagnostic performance and improvements in care. Veterinary professionals need enough information to assess whether those claims are credible and relevant to their own circumstances.
We want to encourage proportionate evidence, honest reporting and a clearer distinction between clinical outcomes, operational performance and product marketing.
How members contribute
The agenda is intended to develop through evidence, discussion and participation. Members can help identify problems, share relevant research, contribute technical expertise and develop proposals for consideration by the wider association.
Membership is open
Join the founding cohort of the Veterinary Technology Association and help set the agenda rather than react to it.
